Fascinating and yes reading it seemed no different to doomscrolling today. And I was going to ask about the dateline, hardly a typo since it was repeated. What were the time zones like back then?

Aha! You’ve just made me realise the likely explanation: France changed to the Gregorian calendar in 1582, but Britain not until 1752. So dates abroad would have been nearly two weeks ahead. Thanks!
